With the Democratic primary just around the corner, I wanted to cut through the noise and tell you directly about my record — and why I’m running for Lieutenant Governor.
When a Congressional seat unexpectedly opened up in the most Republican district in the State of New York, I campaigned to fight the Paul Ryan Tea Party budget that would have decimated Medicare and left our seniors out in the cold.
Against all odds, I won.
Despite the politics of my district, I never backed down from our core Democratic values: pro-choice, pro-worker, pro-marriage equality values. I narrowly lost my re-election bid in part for standing with the President and refusing to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Now I have the honor to continue to serve the public as the running mate of Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has fought to pass the SAFE Act, marriage equality and is fighting to pass the DREAM Act, and the entire 10 point Women’s Equality Agenda that will end pay discrimination and protect a woman’s right to choose.
With your help on September 9, together we can continue to serve the people of this great state by moving New York forward.
