United Auto Workers Region 9 and 9A Endorse Governor Kathy Hochul
NEW YORK – United Auto Workers Region 9 and 9A today endorsed Governor Kathy Hochul for a full term. UAW leadership praised Governor Hochul’s strong commitment to working families, New York’s manufacturing industry, and the rights of organized labor.
UAW is one of the largest and most diverse unions in North America, representing more than 400,000 active members and 580,000 retired members. Region 9 members work in the automotive, aerospace, and steel industries. Region 9A represents a variety of workers, including workers in higher education, cultural institutions, legal services and legal aid, social justice organizations, direct mail and auto technicians.
“As the daughter of a proud union family, UAW’s endorsement means a lot to me and our campaign,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “Empowering workers is key to New York’s economic comeback, and I will always fight to ensure working people have good wages, strong benefits, and the workplace protections they rightfully deserve.”
“We are proud to endorse Governor Hochul,” said UAW Region 9A Director Beverley Brakeman. “She has a proven history of standing with unions and its members. We look forward to having an ally in Albany who will stand with us on issues that matter like the right to organize and form unions without retaliation or interference, accessible healthcare, fair taxation and corporate responsibility and accountability.”
“I know Governor Hochul will continue to ensure our bargaining rights are protected, our workplaces are safe, and our union jobs are protected for generations to come,” said UAW Region 9 Director Jeff Binz. “We are thrilled to continue this work, building a stronger, safer, and more affordable state for all New Yorkers.”
