Lee Zeldin Votes Against Inflation Reduction Act

Published: August 12, 2022

NEW YORK – Lee Zeldin today voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, doubling down on his track record of voting against the best interests of New Yorkers. The bill will reduce the deficit to fight high costs, lower the cost of prescription drugs, reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40 percent by 2030, and create millions of good-paying manufacturing and clean energy jobs nationwide, all without raising taxes on middle-class families.

While Zeldin may try to take credit for the progress Democrats are making, let’s remember that in addition to this historic piece of legislation, he also recently voted against making the U.S. more competitive with China and boosting manufacturing jobs, including here in New York.

“The Inflation Reduction Act will deliver meaningful results for millions of families across our state, yet Lee Zeldin continues to put politics over the people of New York,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “The reason Zeldin voted against lower costs, climate action, and good-paying jobs is simple: he’ll do anything in his power to prove his loyalty to the MAGA agenda, even if that means making life more difficult for New Yorkers.”

“Working families are struggling to make ends meet and Lee Zeldin just voted against a key piece of legislation that will make a difference for New Yorkers,” said Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado. “It’s far from the first time. Zeldin also voted against the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which brought billions in funding to New York. As a member of Congress, voters expect you to fight for their best interests, but time after time Lee Zeldin has failed to do so.”

“It should come as no surprise to New Yorkers that Lee Zeldin voted against historic legislation that will lower costs for working families and take significant action to fight climate change,” said Representative Adriano Espaillat. “As members of Congress, our focus should be to make life better for the American people and Lee Zeldin continues to do the opposite.”

“While Democrats are working to lower prescription drug prices and support the transition to green jobs and energy independence, Republicans like Lee Zeldin are siding with wealthy corporations, refusing to put the needs of New Yorkers first,” said Representative Brian Higgins. “It’s disappointing to see the GOP turn their backs on seniors, working families, and businesses this way.”
