No Plan Lee Opposes Job-Creating Projects and Fighting Inflation

Published: October 27, 2022

NEW YORK – New Yorkers sent Lee Zeldin to Congress to bring jobs back to New York and rebuild our state’s economy. Instead, Zeldin sided with MAGA Republicans and has repeatedly rejected bills to lower costs, create jobs, and strengthen economic development in New York:

  • Zeldin voted against the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, which helped New York land a deal with Micron, one of the largest makers of semiconductors in the world. Micron is making a historic investment in the state of up to $100 billion that will generate nearly 50,000 good-paying jobs.
  • Zeldin voted against the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act — a once-in-a-generation investment in the nation’s infrastructure that is already allowing New York to make critical investments in roads, bridges, and transit while increasing our resilience to climate change.
  • Zeldin voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, which will lower costs for families, make record investments in the environment, and reduce the deficit.

At this week’s debate, Governor Hochul highlighted Zeldin’s record of opposing investments in jobs and infrastructure, as well as his lack of any serious plans or vision to spur economic development. As City & State noted:

“Asked what he would do as governor to spur economic development upstate besides undoing the ban on fracking, Zeldin floundered. ‘I don’t think the government should be in charge of setting those parameters,’ Zeldin said. ‘We need to spur upstate manufacturing, we shouldn’t be lowering the (farmworker) overtime threshold, we need to invest in broadband.’ Hochul, on the other hand, touted recent major investments made to bring back manufacturing to the Hudson Valley and Central New York as well as middle-class tax breaks approved in last year’s budget as Zeldin called for tax cuts. ‘It’s disingenuous to say you want to create jobs, when you as a member of Congress voted against everything that would create jobs,’ Hochul said of Zeldin, mentioning both the Inflation Reduction Act and an infrastructure bill.”

“It’s no surprise that Lee Zeldin hates job-creating projects. In Congress, he has repeatedly aligned with his MAGA extremist allies to obstruct efforts that tackle inflation, create good-paying jobs or modernize our infrastructure,” said Campaign Spokesman Jerrel Harvey. “Look no further than his voting record to see that there is no reason New Yorkers should trust Lee Zeldin to move our state’s economy forward.”
