Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, Assemblymember Latrice Walker and the Progressive Democrats Political Association of Central Brooklyn Endorse Governor Kathy Hochul
NEW YORK – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, Assemblywoman Latrice Walker and the Progressive Democrats Political Association today endorsed Governor Kathy Hochul for a full term. The congresswoman and assemblymember add to the growing list of prominent endorsements the governor has received ahead of the June 28 primary election.
First elected in 2006, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke currently represents New York’s 9th Congressional District. She is a senior member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, a longstanding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, and a senior member of the Committee on Homeland Security, where she serves as the chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, & Innovation. Prior to being elected to Congress, Representative Clarke served as a New York City councilwoman from 2002 to 2006.
Assemblywoman Latrice Walker was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2014. She is a lifelong Brooklyn resident and represents the 55th Assembly district, which includes parts of her native Brownsville. Assemblywoman Walker chairs the Assembly’s Election Law Committee, and is a leading voice for voting rights, criminal justice reform, and affordable housing in the state Assembly.
In addition, Congresswoman Clarke is the President of the Progressive Democrats Political Association of Central Brooklyn, a Democratic club of Kings County where Assemblywoman Walker is a longtime member.
“I am honored to receive these endorsements from two of Central Brooklyn’s strongest leaders,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “Whether it’s fighting to expand affordable housing, protect access to the ballot box, or improve healthcare equity, Congresswoman Clarke and Assemblywoman Walker are getting things done to lift up our communities. I look forward to building on our progress to make New York a stronger state for all.”
“My priorities for my community go beyond politics as usual,” said Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke. “We have to move in a direction to make sure we have access to resources in an equitable manner. To that end, I am endorsing Governor Kathy Hochul who has committed to supporting an equity plan that is inclusive of affordable homeownership, equity in voting rights and priority spending and programming in the most vulnerable communities. I look forward to working with the Governor to deliver for all of us.”
“I am endorsing Governor Kathy Hochul for a full term because we need a governor that is committed to a true partnership with communities around the state,” said Assemblywoman Latrice Walker. “We need a governor that will work with us to bring real solutions to the problems we deal with everyday. Lack of adequate childcare, affordable housing, good schools and access to quality healthcare are the issues that have plagued our communities for generations. Based on the record investments in the budget we recently passed together, I’m confident Kathy Hochul is committed to making further investments that will be transformational for our state.”
