NEW YORK – Actors’ Equity Association today endorsed Governor Kathy Hochul for a full term, the first ever endorsement of a New York gubernatorial candidate by the union.

Actors’ Equity represents more than 20,000 professional actors and stage managers in New York State. The union commended Governor Hochul’s commitment to funding the arts in New York and supporting professional actors and stage managers statewide, from Broadway to Buffalo.

“We’ve seen these last few years how critically important the arts are to our communities,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “I am honored to receive the endorsement from the Actors’ Equity Association and will continue to ensure actors and stage managers across our state have the funding they need and the support they deserve to continue bringing incredible works of art to New York and beyond.”

“Even before she became Governor, Kathy Hochul has been an important friend and ally to the theatre community who understands the economic impact of the arts,” said Al Vincent, Jr., executive director of Actors’ Equity Association. “As Governor, she will work to strengthen arts funding and move New York forward by working on affordable housing and childcare and protecting our communities from gun violence. We are proud to have an ally in the governor’s office who understands how important unions are to ensuring dignity and safe workplaces in the arts.”
