Transport Workers Union Local 100 Endorses Governor Kathy Hochul
NEW YORK – TWU Local 100 today endorsed Governor Kathy Hochul for a full term. As New York’s largest industrial transportation union, TWU Local 100 represents 41,000 workers in the public and private transportation industries throughout the New York City metropolitan area.
Union leadership applauded Governor Hochul’s economic recovery efforts and commitment to improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of New York City’s transportation systems.
“It is an honor to be endorsed by the hardworking members of TWU Local 100, who keep New York’s buses and trains moving forward,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “TWU members stayed on the job during the darkest days of the pandemic, and for that we owe them a debt of gratitude. I am committed to working with members of organized labor to make smart investments that will rebuild our infrastructure, modernize transit service, and protect frontline workers on the job.”
TWU Local 100 President Tony Utano
“Governor Hochul has been a friend of transit workers and TWU Local 100 for years. She stands with us and shares our concerns on major issues like safety on the job, contract fairness, pension equity, and transit worker assaults. She is tackling the complex issues of crime, mental illness and homelessness that have been exacerbated by the pandemic. This is incredibly important to us. Riders come and go but the transit system is our office. It’s where we spent 8 and 10-hour shifts every day and night. If it’s not safe for transit workers, it won’t be safe for the riding public. The governor is a decisive, experienced leader who understands the importance of unions and union jobs. She cares about blue-collar workers and their families. TWU Local 100 is proud to endorse Governor Hochul for a full term.”
